TEAM NOTES

GALAXY LOOKING FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WIN: On Saturday night, the LA Galaxy will look to capture their fourth consecutive win of the season as the club hosts Real Salt Lake at The Home Depot Center. LA is now 3-0-0 for the first time since the 1998 season, when the club rattled off nine wins to begin the campaign. The club’s longest winning streak to start a season is 12, set during the inaugural season of 1996. However, both win streaks included shootout wins.

TAKING ON THE CHAMPS: Saturday’s game against Real Salt Lake will be the Galaxy’s first game of the year against the defending MLS Cup champions. Real Salt Lake, who enter the week with a 1-1-1 record and are in second place in the Western Conference, won their first-ever MLS Cup at Qwest Field in Seattle on Nov. 22, 200, defeating the Galaxy 5-4 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie following extra time.

The Galaxy are 17-14-4 all-time when playing the reigning MLS Cup champion, including a 0-1-1 mark over the 2009 season against the Columbus Crew and a 1-2-2 mark over the 2007 and 2008 seasons against Houston who were the MLS Cup champs in 2006 and 2007.

BUDDLE CONTINUES TO CLIMB CLUB AND LEAGUE SCORING CHARTS: With his two goals on Saturday night, forward Edson Buddle is now the MLS leader in goals scored this season with five, two ahead of three others players. The Galaxy are 13-5-5 in games in which Buddle scores. Since joining the club in 2007, Buddle has scored 30 goals with the Galaxy, which is good for fifth on the all-time scoring list and ties him with former Ecuadorian forward Eduardo Hurtado.

After Hurtado, midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos ranks fourth on the list with 35, followed by forward Carlos Ruiz with 51 and forward Landon Donovan with 64. Current Assistant Coach and former midfielder Cobi Jones is the Galaxy’s all-time scoring leader with 70 goals.

In addition, Buddle is first Galaxy player to score in each of the first three games of the season since Carlos Ruiz did so in 2004. Ruiz holds the Galaxy record for the most consecutive games with a goal to open a season with four. He scored in each of the first four games of 2002 and 2004.
