Real Madrid to face Los Angeles in August

Beckham and his former club, Spanish giants Real Madrid, played against the Galaxy in 2005.

The Los Angeles Galaxy will be taking on Spanish giants Real Madrid on Saturday, August 7, the southern California club announced on Tuesday.

“We are very pleased to be able to bring our fans a game against one of the world’s biggest clubs, one that features a host of the world’s top players in Real Madrid,” said Tom Payne, LA Galaxy President of Business Operations.

The match, which was originally scheduled to be a clash between the Galaxy and treble-winners Inter Milan, will take place in the Rose Bowl. It will be the fourth international friendly for LA this year, but David Beckham’s former club is by far the biggest name.

Los Merengues” finished second in the Spanish First Division this past season and will be led by ex-Inter and new Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho. Best of all, the entire new edition of “Los Galacticos” will be on hand, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaká -- both former winners of the coveted World Player of the Year award -- as well as goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

This event marks the second time that the 31-time La Liga and nine-time European champs have visited LA. In 2005, the star-studded Real Madrid lineup that included midfield maestro Zinedine Zidane and powerful Brazilian forward Ronaldo and wicked winger Luis Figo led their team to a 2-0 victory over the Galaxy in a packed Home Depot Center.

As far as the friendly against Inter goes, the two clubs have agreed to reschedule the match for a future date.
