Galaxy Claim Goalkeeper Brian Perk off waivers

The LA Galaxy announced todaythat the club has claimed rookie goalkeeper Brian Perk off waivers from the Philadelphia Union. A native of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Perk was waived by the Union on Friday after being selected by the club in the fourth round (49th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.


A four-year standout at UCLA, where he was a teammate of current Galaxy rookie Michael Stephens, Perk was also a member of the Galaxy’s U-20 team in 2008, helping that squad win the Pacific Southern California Division title in their inaugural season. The 21-year-old has played for the U.S. Under-15, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 National Teams, playing at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2007 and 2009, helping the U.S. reach the quarterfinals in 2007.


Perk did not appear in any MLS games for the Union, though he did play in the club’s recent friendlies against Celtic and Manchester United. He is expected to join the Galaxy in training for the first time on Friday, August 6 and will be available for selection against Real Madrid on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl.
