Henry ruled out of clash away to LA with knee injury

NEW YORK - Red Bull New York announced today that forward Thierry Henry will miss the team’s clash against the Los Angeles Galaxy match at The Home Depot Center on Friday, Sept. 24 at 11:00 PM ET/8:00 PM PT (TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes; Radio: 1150 AM, AM 1330) due to a MCL sprain in his right knee. Henry initially suffered the injury against Real Salt Lake on Sept. 4 in a 1-0 loss at Rio Tinto Stadium.

“We spoke to Thierry Monday and we decided that it was the best course of action for his health and for our club to rest him this week,” said Red Bull New York General Manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler. “Despite the attention surrounding this Friday’s match, we did not want to exacerbate Thierry’s current injury that he has been playing and practicing with over the past two weeks. We want to ensure that he is healthy for our final matches as we hope to qualify for the playoffs and make a run towards the MLS Cup. We have no doubt that our game against the Los Angeles Galaxy will be no less exciting with the talent already on the pitch and we are confident that we can earn a positive result.”

The Red Bulls-Galaxy match is expected to feature four of the League’s top Designated Players: New York’s Juan Pablo Angel and Rafa Marquez and Los Angeles’ David Beckham and Landon Donovan. The Galaxy is currently in first place in the Western Conference with an MLS-best 50 points off a 15-5-5 record.
