LA Galaxy to open 2011 season at Seattle on March 15; Host New England in home opener on March 20

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will open the 16th season of Major League Soccer on Tuesday, March 15 when they travel north to take on the Seattle Sounders FC at Qwest Field in the MLS First Kick 2011 presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods. That game, which will kick off at 6:30 p.m. (PT), will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, as well as online at ESPN3.com.


The Galaxy will then play their first of 17 regular season games at home on Sunday, March 20 when they host the New England Revolution at The Home Depot Center. That game will kick off at 5 p.m. (PT) with broadcast details to be announced at a later date. This will be the fourth time that the Galaxy host New England in their home opener, defeating the Revolution 3-2 in 2004, losing 1-0 in 2006 and winning 1-0 in 2010.


Additionally, Major League Soccer announced that the Galaxy will face Real Salt Lake in their home opener at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, March 26 at 6 p.m. (PT).


This will be just the fifth time in club history and the first since 2008 that the Galaxy open the season on the road. In the previous four season openers on the road, the Galaxy are 0-2-2, drawing at Columbus in 2003 and at Houston in 2007 while losing to Columbus in 2005 and Colorado in 2008.


All-time the Galaxy are 7-5-3 in their season openers, including last season’s win over the Revolution. In home openers, the Galaxy are 10-4-1 all-time and are unbeaten in their last three.
