LA Galaxy forward Bryan Jordan recently joined Radio personalities Big Boy, Luscious Liz and the rest of Power 106’s morning-drive show Big Boy’s Neighborhood at the PINZ Bowling and Entertainment Center in Studio City for the fifth annual Stars & Strikes Celebrity Bowling and Poker Tournament to raise funds for the work being done by A Place Called Home (APCH).
APCH is an after-school program that for the last 14 years has served as a safe, home-like environment for thousands of children in South Central Los Angeles. Stars & Strikes was the brainchild of APCH's Leadership Council, a diverse group of young professionals, entrepreneurs, actors and entertainers, to celebrate the great work being done in the community by APCH, a long-time recipient of the Galaxy’s Kick for Kids program.
[inline_node:33586]Jordan, 25, who grew up near South Central in El Monte, was part of a bowling team that included Big Boy and Luscious Liz. No word on how well, or bad, he and his bowl-mates did on the lanes, but what is known is that everyone had a good time and it was all for a good cause.
“Not only were the kids having a blast, but you could tell people were passionate about donating and contributing to such a great cause,” Jordan said about Starts and Strikes. “Everyone was just happy to see kids with smiles on their faces and I was glad to have had the opportunity to get involved.”
Other celebrities that attended the fundraiser included comedian Howie Mandel, recording artist Cee-Lo Green, rocker Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, reality TV-star Rob Kardashian, of E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and R&B Artist Jason Derulo, among others.
Following Tuesday’s 1-0 win in the season opener, Jordan and the Galaxy are back in action this Sunday when they host the New England Revolution in their home opener at The Home Depot Center. The game, which is presented by Pechanga Resorts and Casino, kicks off at 5 p.m. and can be seen live in Spanish on Galavision. FOX Sports West will also air the game and a special postgame edition of Galaxy Live on tape delay starting at 8 p.m. The first 15,000 fans will receive 2011 magnet schedules.
