CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, June 9, 2011) – LA Galaxy forward Jack McBean was officially named to the U.S. squad for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico on Thursday. Signed as a Home Grown Player by the Galaxy in January, McBean has made one Reserve League appearance for the club while spending much of the year training with the U-17 squad. McBean is the only MLS player to be named in Wilmer Cabrera’s 21-man squad, and one of nine from the state of California.

McBean made his international debut in a friendly against Jamaica in January, shortly before signing with the Galaxy. He has made nine appearances for the U-17’s, tallying three assists, all of which came in the 3-0 win over Canada in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship Final. The U.S. qualified for the World Cup by reaching the semifinals of that tournament, in which he played in five of the six games that the U.S. played, making two starts.

McBean and the rest of the U.S. team will depart for Torreon, Mexico on Friday to begin final preparations for the Group D opener against the Czech Republic on Sunday, June 19. The U.S. will then face Uzbekistan on Wednesday, June 22 in their second game of group play before taking on New Zealand in their third and final game on Saturday, June 25. The Round of 16 begins on Wednesday, June 29, with the U-17 World Cup Final held at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Sunday, July 10.

After the conclusion of the tournament, McBean will return to Southern California and resume training with the Galaxy.
