LA Galaxy mid-week update

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, July 6, 2011) – After a day off on Wednesday, the LA Galaxy will return to training on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s game against the Chicago Fire at The Home Depot Center. Saturday’s game, which is presented by Herbalife, will be the second and final meeting of the year between the Galaxy and Fire with Bruce Arena’s team claiming a 2-1 win at Toyota Park on April 17 behind goals from Chad Barrett and Omar Gonzalez.

Unbeaten in their last 11 games, the Galaxy will be looking to replicate that result on Saturday when they host the Fire. That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen live in English on FOX Soccer, starting with the Soccer Night in America pregame show at 7 p.m. FOX Deportes will also carry the game live starting at 7:30 p.m.

Following Saturday’s game, the club will hold two training sessions before travelling north to Seattle for a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal game against Seattle Sounders FC at the Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila, Wash. The Galaxy reached the Open Cup Quarterfinals thanks to a 2-1 win over the USL Pro League’s Los Angeles Blues at Titan Stadium on June 28. This is the second straight season in which the Sounders will host the Galaxy in the Open Cup Quarterfinals, with Seattle claiming a 2-0 win over LA last year en route to a second straight Open Cup championship.

While the Galaxy will be playing in two different competitions, the Galaxy Academy U-16 team will head to Wisconsin for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Finals. One of eight teams to qualify for the U-16 Finals Week, the Galaxy will face local rival Real So Cal as well as the Dallas Texans and Seattle Sounders FC in group play, with the group winner advancing to the U-16 Development Academy Final, which will be held on Saturday, July 16.
