On Wednesday, when the MLS All-Stars face Manchester United (8:30 pm ET/5:30 pm PT; ESPN2/TeleFutura/TSN), David Beckham will suit up to play against the club with whom he spent 12 years. It will undoubtedly be an emotional moment for the LA Galaxy star, who has said he will always remain a United fan. Beckham wins FA Youth Cup with Giggs, Neville
1992: At the end of the 1991-92 campaign, Manchester United met Crystal Palace for the FA Youth Cup title. The Red Devils won 6-3 on aggregate and were led by Beckham, Ryan Giggs and captain Gary Neville. All three would go on to the first team, where they would be rendered forever synonymous with the club and become embedded into its rich history. This championship became a prelude to the many outstanding accomplishments that would follow for Beckham in his illustrious career.
Beckham drops 50-yarder on Wimbledon
August 17, 1996: On the first day of the Premier League season, Manchester United led Wimbledon by a score of 2-0. Beckham found himself with the ball just behind the midfield line, and noticed that Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan was far out from his own goal. In one of the most famous strikes in EPL history, Beckham found the back of the net and etched his way into a household name at Manchester United.
Beckham inherits the famous No. 7
May 18, 1997: One of the all-time greats to ever don the United red and black was set to retire. Eric Cantona, who wore Manchester United's coveted No. 7, bestowed that honor on Beckham—and he would live up to the billing. Having adorned the likes of George Best, Bryan Robson, Cantona, Beckham and later Cristiano Ronaldo, the No. 7 shirt holds a special place in the heart of United fans everywhere.
Beckham leads Manchester United in crucial EPL win
May 16, 1999: With Arsenal breathing down their necks, Manchester United needed a win over Tottenham on the last fixture of the campaign to secure the Premier League title. After falling behind on a Les Ferdinand goal, Beckham delivered the equalizer before the halftime whistle. Paul Scholes played a through-ball on the right side of the box to Beckham, who drove a bullet to the far post and kept United’s title hopes alive. Sure enough, an Andy Cole chip over goalkeeper Ian Watson gave United the 2-1 win—and the Premiership.
Beckham helps United secure the treble
May 26, 1999: Down a goal in the UEFA Champions League final as the clock struck 90 minutes, Manchester United had just three minutes of stoppage time to find an equalizer against Bayern Munich. They more than equalized. Beckham sent a corner into the box that rattled around before finally being slotted home by Teddy Sheringham. Less than a minute later, as the teams were surely preparing for extra time, United forced another corner. Beckham swung in a dipping ball that was headed to the back post before finding the foot of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who redirected it into the net. In just two-and-a-half minutes, Manchester United went from sure defeat to Champions League winners, thus completing the elusive treble for the season (FA Cup, Premier League title, Champions League title).
