LA Galaxy to volunteer at Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

In support of Hunger Action Month and United We Serve, Galaxy will help assemble backpacks for Food Bank’s BackPack Program

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, September 12, 2011) – The LA Galaxy will be volunteering at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank on Tuesday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in support of Hunger Action Month as well as United We Serve, a national initiative which encourages Americans to participate in service and remembrance activities on September 11 and beyond.

Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts and members of the club’s staff will be helping to assemble backpacks for the Food Bank’s BackPack Program, which provides food for children in need over the weekend. Each Friday, backpacks containing enough nutritious food for six meals are given to children enrolled in the program, ensuring that they will receive the same, proper nutrition over the weekend that they do during the week through the National School Lunch Program.

In further support of the fight against hunger, the Galaxy will host their annual Food Drive this Saturday, September 17 as part of the club’s annual Drive Series. Fans are encouraged to join the Galaxy by donating five canned food items or $5.00 prior to the club’s game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at The Home Depot Center.

Donors will receive a player card signed by Galaxy defender Omar González and a voucher valid for $5 off the gate price of a ticket for the October 1 game.  Additionally, donors will be entered into a drawing to receive an adidas LA Galaxy soccer ball signed by members of the 2011 team. Donations can be made at any Galaxy Drive Series booth located outside each entrance at The Home Depot Center starting at 5:30pm.
