LA Galaxy Academy Update: September 21

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, September 20, 2011) – All six Galaxy Academy teams were in action last weekend with the U.S. Soccer Development Academy season getting underway. The Galaxy U-12, U-13, U-14 and U-15 teams were all in action close to home while the U-16’s and U-18’s made their way to Northern California for a pair of matches to open their seasons. The six teams combined to play a total of nine games on the weekend, going 8-0-1 in those matches and outscoring opponents 36-9.

LA Galaxy U-12’s 1, Pateadores-LA 0

Jake Milch scored the only goal of the game just minutes after coming on as the Galaxy U-12’s improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a second straight 1-0 win. Alain Hernandez and Jordan Aldama combined for the shutout while Milch, who is from Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif., scored just before halftime to defeat Pateadores-LA, handing them their first loss of the season.


LA Galaxy U-13’s 7, South Bay Force 1

After opening the season with a 1-1 draw with Pateadores on September 11, the Galaxy U-13’s claimed their first win of the season, beating South Bay Force 7-1 on Saturday. Salvador Segura, scored five of the Galaxy’s goals while Ian Lonergan and Jesus Nunez each added tallies. Playing their first home game of the season at El Segundo Hugh School, the Galaxy scored all seven of their goals in the first half as the cruised to the victory.


LA Galaxy U-14’s 6, Legends FC 0

Pierce Ashworth kept a clean sheet and six different players scored goals as the Galaxy U-14’s won their second straight game to open the season, beating Legends FC 6-0. Fernando Robledo opened the scoring for Craig Harrington’s team before Dylan Bielanski, Kouske Ide, Andrew Sady Kennedy added goals, as did substitutes Rapha Diago and Sebastian Navarez.


LA Galaxy U-15’s 6, South Bay Force 2

Alejandro Vergara Jr. had four assists while Collin Hossum and substitute Juan Orozco each scored twice as the U-15’s beat South Bay Force 6-2. Vergara set up each of the Galaxy’s first four goals, with Hossum scoring the first two. Rolando Munoz scored the third for LA before Orozco got his first. Milano Sanchez-Johnson added a fifth for the Galaxy before Orozco rounded out the scoring two give his team their second win in as many games.


LA Galaxy U-15’s 4. CZ Elite 1

The Galaxy U-15’s completed a perfect weekend with a 4-1 road win over CZ Elite on Sunday to improve to 3-0-0 on the season. Collin Hossum scored twice more while Rolando Munoz and Alejandro Vergara Jr. each had a goal and an assist. Michael Suchy and David Orellana once again combined in goal for the win, which put the Galaxy in first place in their division.


LA Galaxy U-16’s 4, De Anza Force 4

The Galaxy U-16’s opened their season with a wild 4-4 draw with the De Anza Force in Northern California. Justin Dhillon, who led the Galaxy U-16’s in goals last season, scored his first of the year just five minutes into the game to put LA up 1-0. Jaime Villareal, making his debut in the Galaxy Academy, added two more goals inside the opening 15 minutes. The Inglewood, Calif. native then completed the hat trick in the game’s final minute, finishing off a pass from Justin Dhillon to earn his team a 4-4 draw.

The U-16’s rounded out the two-game road trip to Northern California with their first win of the season, getting goals from Steve Martinez and Jaime Villareal. Villareal scored his fourth of the season in the first half, finishing off a pass from Mario Ortiz-Flores to give his team a 1-0 lead. They sealed the win late on when Martinez, who entered the game with 10 minutes remaining, took a pass from Justin Dhillon and scored his first goal of the season, giving his team a 2-0 win. Grayson Cornwell earned his first shutout of the year in goal for the Galaxy.


LA Galaxy U-18’s 1, De Anza Force 0

Jack McBean scored a second half goal and Juan Cervantes kept a clean sheet in his Galaxy Academy debut as the U-18’s opened their season with a 1-0 win over De Anza Force. McBean, who signed with the Galaxy after impressing with the U-16’s at the start of last season, started up front alongside U.S. U-17 National Team teammate Mario Rodriguez and scored the game’s only goal in the 63rd minute. Playing behind a back four of Chris Antunez, Matt Tilley, Javan Torre and Michael Bautista, who was replaced by Abel Leon in the second half, Juan Cervantes recorded the shutout as LA got their season off to a winning start.


LA Galaxy U-18’s 5, Santa Cruz Breakers 1

One day after opening their season with a win, the Galaxy U-18’s made it two road wins in two attempts with a convincing 5-1 win over the Santa Cruz Breakers. The home side went in front 1-0 after 10 minutes, but the Galaxy were in front 2-1 at the half behind goals from Pedro Velasquez and Jose Villareal, the two-time U-16 Academy Player of the Year. Jack McBean made the score 3-1 in favor of the Galaxy just after halftime while Raul Mendiola scored his first two goals of the year late on to clinch a 5-1 victory. With the win, the Galaxy took a perfect six points from their Northern California road trip, leaving them in first place in the SoCal Division.


THE WEEK AHEAD

The three younger Galaxy Academy teams will be back in action this weekend in the SCDSL while the U-15’s and the two Development Academy teams will enjoy a weekend free from competition before returning to action on October 1.
