CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, September 29, 2011) – The LA Galaxy are once again teaming up with MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, to implement a league-wide campaign to help in the fight against breast cancer. The Galaxy will help raise awareness and funds for the cause throughout the month of October during their games against Western Conference rivals Real Salt Lake on Saturday, October 1 and Chivas USA on Sunday, October 16 at The Home Depot Center.
For the second consecutive year, the Galaxy, along with other MLS players, coaches and officials will be outfitted in pink gear for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Players will have special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patches on their jerseys and be provided pink shoelaces and wristbands. Coaches and technical staff will be provided MLS W.O.R.K.S. and Galaxy scarves and ribbon pins. Game officials will support the initiative with pink whistles, wristbands and jersey patches.
At each Galaxy home game in October, the games will be played with commemorative, pink adidas Jabulani match balls and pink Gatorade sideline towels will be used by both benches. In addition, Galaxy staff members will support the campaign by wearing pink ribbon pins.
Both visiting teams, Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA, have also agreed to support the initiative by wearing their respective Breast Cancer Awareness gear.
This year, the Galaxy have partnered with the Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) Fraternity to distribute 10,000 pink ribbons to fans at both of the club’s home games in the month of October.
Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC), the world leader in event security and crowd management, will proudly wear pink to show their support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. CSC will have their finest crowd management personnel wearing pink uniforms for both Galaxy games on October 1 and October 16 at The Home Depot Center. CSC has provided crowd management services at The Home Depot Center since 2005 and is pleased to have the opportunity to contribute their efforts to help in the fight against breast cancer.
As part of their effort to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer, both the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation and MLS W.O.R.K.S will auction off several game-worn pink items for charity, for complete details click here. The Galaxy Foundation will also have a limited number of special edition LA Galaxy pink scarves available for purchase at its booth during each game.
