LA Galaxy Academy Update: Oct. 5

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, October 5, 2011) – All six Galaxy Academy teams were in action last weekend, with the club’s U-18 and U-16’s facing Chivas USA in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy SuperClasico. The Galaxy U-12, U-13, U-14 and U-15 teams were all in action as well. The six teams combined to play a total of eight games on the weekend, winning seven, losing just one, recording five clean sheets and outscoring opponents 23-6.

LA Galaxy U-12’s 2, OC Revolution 0              
Sunday, October 2                  
Whittier Soccer Complex

Daquan Dawkins scored his second goal of the campaign and Brecc Evans scored his first as Galaxy U-12's beat OC Revolution, 2-0, Sunday at the Whittier Soccer Complex in Whittier, Calif., to remain undefeated on the season. Goalkeepers Aaron Hernandez and Jordan Aladam combined for the clean sheet. The Galaxy U-12’s are now 4-0-0 on the season, with four shutouts.


LA Galaxy U-13’s 3, Arsenal FC 2

Arroyo High School

Chrisitan Perez, Ian Lonergan and Jesus Nunez all scored a goal to help the Galaxy U-13’s beat Arsenal FC, 3-2, Saturday at Arroyo High School in San Bernardino, Calif. The Galaxy came back not once, but twice to tie the game and eventually win it in the final minute of the match on a goal by Nunez.

Whittier Soccer Complex

The Galaxy U-13’s finished off a perfect weekend with a 2-0 win over the OC Revolution on Sunday at the Whittier Soccer Complex in Whittier, Calif. Chrisitan Perez and Jesus Nunez each scored their fourth goal of the season, one in each side of the half, and Angel Viella and Allan Carrillo combined in goal to keep a clean sheet, the team’s first of the season. The squad is now 3-1-1 on the season.

Oaks Polo Fields

Pierce Ashworth and Michael Suchy combined to keep a clean sheet and Sebastian Navarrez scored two goals as the Galaxy U-14’s beat the Slammers FC, 2-0, at the Oaks Polo Fields in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Andrew Kennedy and Dylan Bielanski each had one assist as the 14’s improved to 3-0-0 on the season.

Michael Suchy and Pierce Ashworth combined to keep a clean sheet and five different players scored goals as the Galaxy U-14’s won their fourth consecutive game to open the season, beating Pateadores FC 5-0 at the Oaks Polo Fields in San Juan Capistrano. Cesar Farias opened the scoring in the 5th minute. Farias then assisted on the team’s second score of the match, a goal by Sebastian Navarrez in the 27th minute. Connor Ryan, who also had an assist on the day, Asa Silverman and Dylan Bielanski added goals in the 37th, 50th and 59th minute, respectively. Fernando Robledo, Andrew Kennedy and Kosuke Ide had one assist each in the game. Craig Harrington’s team is now 4-0-0 on the season.


LA Galaxy U-15’s 5, Beach FC 0

Milano Sanchez-Johnson scored two goals and Colin Hossum, Rolando Muñoz and Juan Reyna each added a goal and an assist as the U-15’s beat Beach FC, 5-0, to continue their impressive form. In the last two weeks, the U-15’s have won three games by a combined score of 15-3. Of the 15, Hossum has scored five, Sanchez-Johnson three and Muñoz two. Playing behind a defense that included Michael Lopez, Christian Onalfo, Kerdian Ramos and Reyna, goalkeeper David Correlana recorded the shutout. The U-15’s improved to 4-0-0 on the season.


LA Galaxy U-16’s 2, Chivas USA 3

Mario Ortiz scored two goals for the Galaxy’s U-16s as they lost 3-2 to Chivas USA in their SoCal Division opener. Ortiz, who was making his second start of the season, scored goals in each side of the half— on a free kick in the 26th minute and a penalty kick in the 50th. Chivas USA scored two goals during a five-minute span late in the game, however, to comeback from down 2-1 to win game. The Galaxy dropped to 1-1-1 overall, 0-1-0 in the SoCal division.


LA Galaxy U-18’s 2, Chivas USA 1

Jack McBean scored the game-winner in the 80th minute, and extended his scoring streak to three games as the U-18’s opened SoCal Divison play with a 1-0 win over rival Chivas USA. McBean, who signed with the Galaxy’s first team after impressing with the U-16’s at the start of last season, now has three goals on the season. Drew Murphy opened his 2011-2012 goal account in the 56th minute of this game with a blistering shot to the lower left corner of the goal. The squad is now 3-0-0 overall, 1-0-o in the SoCal division.


THE WEEK AHEAD

Three of the four younger Galaxy Academy teams will be back in action this weekend in the SCDSL while the two Development Academy teams travel to San Diego to face the San Diego Surf at the San Diego Polo Club in Racho Santa Fe, Calif. The Galaxy U-14 are not in action this week, their next game is Saturday, Oct. 15 against Real So Cal Whie.

Gyasi Zardes registered his second assist of the season this weekend as the Roadrunners beat Seattle Universty, 3-1, in the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation league game for both schools. Zardes, who’s scored 11 goals already on the year, currently has Bakersfield unbeaten (5-0-4 overall record, 1-0-0 MPSF) and ranked No. 25 in the NSCAA Division I poll (released on Oct. 4). This is the first time in school history Bakersfield has been ranked in the NSCAA poll. The redshirt sophomore was also featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” section on the magazine’s Oct. 3 issue. Zardes and the Roadrunners travel north this weekend for a pair of MPSF road games, against Sacramento State on Friday at 4 p.m. and San Jose State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The true freshman scored the first goal of his collegiate career against North Carolina, Duke’s biggest rival in the ACC and a team that is ranked No. 4 in the country, on Sept. 30. The goal, which came in the 84th minute of the game, gave the Blue Devils a crucial 2-2 draw on the road and extended their unbeaten streak to five. On Oct. 4, Wolfe played in his seventh game, sixth as a starter, and helped Duke extended their unbeaten streak with a 1-0 over Davidson. Wolfe, who has one goal and one assist on the season, and the Blue Devils return to action this Friday, when they host North Carolina State at 4 p.m.
