LA Galaxy Academy Update: Oct. 12

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, October 12, 2011) – The Galaxy Academy teams went 2-2-0 in games played last weekend, with the club’s U-18’s and U-16’s beating the San Diego Surf in U.S. Soccer Development Academy action by a combined score of 7-0. The Galaxy U-12 and U-15 teams were in action as well, with both squads losing close games to Real So Cal.

LA Galaxy U-12’s 0, Real So Cal 1                   Sunday, October 9                   Oak Park High School
The LA Galaxy allowed their first goal of the campaign and lost their first game of season as well, falling 1-0 to Real So Cal, on Saturday at Oak Park High School. The Galaxy U-12’s are now 4-1-0 in the Southern California Developmental Soccer League Fall Season.


LA Galaxy U-15’s 1, Real So Cal 2                   Sunday, October 9                   Pierce College
Rolando Muñoz gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, but Real So Cal came back with two goals in the second half to win 2-1 on Saturday at Pier College in Woodland Hills. Headed into the match, both teams were undefeated with identical 4-0-0 records. The win propelled Real So Cal to first place of the division and handed the Galaxy their first loss of the season. In spite of the defeat, the goal was the second in two weeks for Muñoz, who scored one goal and had one assist in the team’s 5-0 win over Beach FC the week prior. The Galaxy U-15’s are now second in the SCDSL with 4-1-0 record.


LA Galaxy U-16’s 3, San Diego Surf 0              Saturday, October 8                 San Diego Polo Club
Justin Dhillon, Mario Ortiz and Jaime Villareal each scored a goal as the visiting Galaxy beat the San Diego Surf 3-0 on Saturday at the San Diego Polo Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Villareal now has five goals on the season and is the club’s scoring leader through four games played. Ortiz is second on the team in goals scored with three and Dhillon is third on the squad with two. Dhillon and Ortiz each had an assist in the game as well. The Galaxy U-16’s improved to 2-1-1 overall, 1-1-0 in the SoCal division and moved up to second place in the standings.


LA Galaxy U-18’s 4, San Diego Surf 0              Saturday, October 8                 San Diego Polo Club
Sebastian Velasquez scored two goals and Abel Leon and Peter Velasquez each added a goal as the Galaxy remained undefeated and downed the host San Diego Surf 4-0 on Saturday at the San Diego Polo Fields in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Juan Cervantes and Grayson Cornwell combined for the shutout, the second for the club this season. Sebastian Velasquez’s goals were his first two of the season, leaving him tied for second on the team with Raul Mendiola and Peter Velasquez (no relation), who scored his second of the season against the Surf. The Galaxy U-18’s improved to 4-0-0 overall and remain in first place of the SoCal Division with a perfect 2-0-0 record.


THE WEEK AHEAD

All four of the younger Galaxy Academy teams will be in action this weekend in the SCDSL, while the two Development Academy teams are off this weekend.
