CARSON, Calif. — After scoring the winning goal against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan was named the Most Valuable Player of MLS Cup 2011.

It wasn’t just his goal-scoring exploits that earned him the accolades. The US international was in fine form the entire match, producing a game-high five shots (two on goal) and tormenting the Houston defense with darting runs.

Donovan joins D.C. United attacker Dwayne De Rosario as the second player ever to be named MLS Cup MVP twice. Donovan also won the award after scoring twice as the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Chicago Fire 4-2 in the 2003 final.
