Montreal Impact Select 10 Players in 2011 MLS Expansion Draft

NEW YORK  – Major League Soccer today held the 2011 Expansion Draft for the Montreal Impact who begin MLS play in 2012.  The Impact selected 10 players from 272 available players left unprotected by Major League Soccer clubs.


Ten teams had a player selected from their roster while eight were left untouched. 


Each current MLS club could protect 11 players from their 2011 roster. Generation adidas players and Homegrown players were automatically protected. Designated Players did not have to be protected unless the player has a no trade clause in his contract.  Each MLS club could lose no more than one player from their 2011 roster through the Expansion Draft.

* Immediately after selecting James Riley in the Expansion Draft, Montreal traded Riley to Chivas USA in exchange for Justin Braun and Gerson Mayen.


Note: After the conclusion of the Expansion Draft, MLS conducted a draft of waived players, open to all 19 clubs. The Philadelphia Union selected former Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Nizar Khalfan. Khalfan was the only waived player selected.
