“He’s a young kid that has probably had this issue for a while,” Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said following today’s training session. “I’m happy it’s been identified properly so that we can get him fixed up so he’s heading in the right direction. He’s still a young kid and we think that he’ll be back on the field in the near future.”

Currently in his first year as a pro, Villarreal trained with the club last week before visiting with the club’s medical staff on Tuesday. He is expected to re-join the team in training next month.

GORENTZVAIG DEPARTS: The Galaxy’s third round pick in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, Yuri Gorentzvaig was released from preseason camp on Wednesday. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Gorentzvaig was one of seven youth internationals that were invited to the MLS Combine earlier this month. The 21-year-old had been limited in training after suffering a heel injury during the first week of camp.
