CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, February 9, 2012) – The 2012 LA Galaxy Caravan – Countdown to Kickoff, presented by The Home Depot, is scheduled to make Fan Stops throughout the Southern California area as the club prepares to defend their 2011 MLS Cup Championship. The second annual Galaxy Caravan kicks off this Sunday, February 12 at the “Meet the New LA Galaxy Players” event at The Home Depot Center and concludes on Saturday, March 10 with the Galaxy’s home opener against Real Salt Lake. At all Fan Stops along the Caravan, the Galaxy will be distributing the official 2012 Galaxy Caravan t-shirts, courtesy of adidas, and the Galaxy Preseason roster card including the club’s upcoming season schedule.
The Galaxy Caravan provides fans with the opportunity to interact with current and former Galaxy players, coaches, members of the Miss LA Galaxy Court, Cozmo, club broadcasters, the Galaxy Street Team and other members of the front office staff. At each stop, fans will have the opportunity to see the Galaxy’s 2011 MLS Cup Trophy as well as receive autographs. Due to time constraints, autograph sessions may not be able to satisfy all fans in attendance. Galaxy sales representatives will be on hand to discuss season tickets, mini-plans and group sales, while staff from the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation will attend select stops with information regarding fundraising opportunities.
This Sunday, February 12 at Fan Stop #1, which is free and open to the public, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at The Home Depot Center, fans will have the opportunity to meet the new 2012 Galaxy players. Fans will be able to pose for photos with the 2011 MLS Cup Trophy, play at the X-box station, take a penalty kick at the Soccer Wall, listen to music from Hot 92.3FM, enjoy a bite to eat at the Me So Hungry food truck and Paradise Cookies dessert truck, and much more. Clear Channel Radio Group, the official Caravan media partner, will support all of the Fan Stops with on-air mentions through their various stations and be at select stops with giveaways and music. Clearchannel will interview Galaxy coaches and players during the Caravan beginning with an in-studio interview with forward Edson Buddle on AM570’s the “Loose Cannons Show” next Wednesday, February 15 at 2:15 p.m.
As part of the 2012 Galaxy Caravan, fans will have the unique experience of being able to watch a closed-door Galaxy preseason game on Tuesday, February 14 when the club takes on former Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts and the Montreal Impact. With a donation of $5 or more to the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation a limited number of fans will be able to attend the game. The Galaxy Caravan will make additional Fan Stops at local Home Depot locations, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Soccer Nation Expo.
