CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, May 17, 2012) – After nearly a month of playing games in Arizona, San Diego and Seattle, the LA Galaxy Academy teams will once again play in the Los Angeles area this weekend when they face rival Real So Cal.

The games will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. (U-18’s) and 1:30 p.m. (U-16’s) at Oak Park High School in Oak Park, Calif.

The Galaxy U-18’s (17-4-3 overall, 9-3-1 SoCal Division) pulled off a huge 4-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders FC Academy team (9-12-4 overall, 7-5-1 Northwest Division) on Saturday, but lost to Crossfire Premier (11-8-6 overall, 5-5-3 Northwest Division) 2-1 on Sunday to close out a two-game stint in Washington. The club has a favorable schedule down the stretch that includes two games at The Home Depot Center. Of their last three regular season games, Saturday’s game against Real So Cal (11-8-6 overall, 5-5-4 SoCal Division) is their only one on the road.

The Galaxy U-16’s (15-3-6 overall, 9-1-3 SoCal Division) are in a similar situation. After getting a 4-4 draw with the Sounders and a 2-1 win over Crossfire last weekend, the Galaxy head back to Southern California to take on Real So Cal (10-10-5 overall, 3-6-5 SoCal Division) on Saturday before closing out the regular season with home games against Arsenal FC and Nomads SC.

SUPERCLASIQUITO: SuperClasico Week kicked off in earnest on Wednesday night with the Galaxy U-14’s beating their Chivas USA counterparts 1-0. A goal in the 60th minute by Cesar Farias Barbosa gave Galaxy a 1-0 win over their rivals. Goalkeepers Michael Suchy and Pierce Ashworth teamed up for the shutout.

JACK MCBEAN NAMED TO U.S. U-18 ROSTER: LA Galaxy forward Jack McBean was one of 20 players called into the U.S. Under-18 National Team by head coach Javier Perez for the upcoming Lisbon International Tournament in Portugal. The 17-year-old Galaxy Academy graduate is one of just two current MLS players in the squad, which features 15 current or former U.S. Soccer Development Academy products. He traveled to Portugal earlier today ahead of a friendly against Sporting Lisbon on Saturday, before opening the four-team tournament four days later.

The U.S. will play their first game of the competition against Poland on Wednesday, May 23. They will then take on Slovakia the following day before rounding out the tournament on Saturday, May 26 against Portugal. While the U.S. is sending their U-18 National Team, the other three nations will each send their U-19 squads. READ MORE
