CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan has been added to the U.S. National Team roster for their training camp that is currently being held in Orlando, Fla. The all-time leading goal scorer for the U.S., Donovan flew to Florida today to join up with the first 16 players that opened camp last week.
The team will train in Orlando until Friday, May 25 when U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann will cut his roster down from 27 to 23 for a series of five games between May 26 and June 12, including the first two CONCACAF 2014 World Cup Qualifiers. Donovan could miss each of the Galaxy’s next two games, at home against San Jose on Wednesday and at Houston on Saturday.
Since making his international debut in 2000, Donovan has collected 138 caps for the U.S., including a record 35 appearances in World Cup Qualifiers, while scoring 46 goals. Donovan last played for his country in September 2011, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Costa Rica at The Home Depot Center. He was included in the U.S. roster for their friendlies against Panama and Italy in February, but he was forced to withdraw from the squad because of bronchitis. With his next start, Donovan, who is 26 caps behind Cobi Jones for the most in U.S. history, will move past Jeff Agoos into first place for the most starts for the National Team with 125.
The Galaxy are back in action on Wednesday, May 23 when they host the San Jose Earthquakes.
