CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, July 31, 2012) – The LA Galaxy today agreed to loan forward Chad Barrett to Vålerenga of the Norwegian Premier League through the end of their 2012 season, which concludes in November. The 27-year-old, who trained with Vålerenga for a week earlier this month, will travel to Oslo on Wednesday to join up with his new club. He has appeared in 45 regular season games for the Galaxy since joining the club in January 2011, scoring eight goals and adding eight assists while helping the club win both the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup last season.

Barrett was acquired in a trade from Toronto FC ahead of the start of the 2011 MLS season and went on to finish second on the team with seven regular season goals and eight in all competitions. He started each of the club’s first three postseason games last year, but suffered a severe right ankle injury in training ahead of MLS Cup, forcing him to miss the 1-0 win over Houston.

This season, Barrett appeared in 18 regular season games, scoring once, against Philadelphia on July 4, and adding three assists while also adding an assist in the U.S. Open Cup. For his career, Barrett, who has also played for Chicago and Toronto FC, has 42 goals and 27 assists in 192 career regular season MLS games.

He joins a Vålerenga team that currently sits in sixth place of the Norwegian Tippeligaen with 25 points from a 7-6-4 record. Coached by former Norway international Martin Andresen, Vålerenga are 13 points behind first place Strømsgodset and have 13 games left on their schedule this season.
