SEATTLE -- It was quite the eventful night for Galaxy defender AJ DeLaGarza.
During his 90 minute shift in the LA Galaxy's 4-0 defeat to the Seattle Sounders, DeLaGarza was involved in one of the turning points of the match in the 15th minute of play when he appeared to be brought down by Leo Gonzalez in the box. However, referee Chris Penso, ultimately waved off the challege. The excitement did not end there for DeLaGarza as the outside back was awarded a yellow card less than ten minutes later for a challenge on Sounders forward Eddie Johnson.
With LA trailing, DeLaGarza became a focal point in the Galaxy attack as the club attempted to battle back from the deficit, ultimately to no avail.
Below are DeLaGarza's thoughts on the match...
(On the controversial call...)
DELAGARZA: “It’s a play that could have changed the game, but regardless of that we gave up four goals and in Seattle, you’re not going to win a game having to score five or six goals.”
(On the defensive play....)
DELAGARZA: "We learned from Higuain that we need to drop on those through-balls and I think that sometimes, we might have dropped too early and then they were able to get the ball and turn on us. We were really forced to turn around so it's a give and take I guess."
(On his play going forward...)
DELAGARZA: "I was just trying to get up the field man. I was a forward at point while we were down 3-0 and 4-0 just trying to get anything we can. I think we didn't do well defensively or attacking wise. I don't think we got a shot on goal for 80 something minutes. With the players that we have, that's unacceptable."
(On moving forward from the result...)
DELAGARZA: "You know, we've had seven or eight games, weekend and weekday. That's not an excuse, but they're tough. Real Madrid's not easy to play, Tottenham's not easy and Dallas in a hundred degrees, I think you saw in the second half when we gave up two or three goals, our legs kind of gave out on us. We were playing lazy balls out of bounce and I think we got to get our legs back and get ready for Chivas, which is a huge game."
(On whether or not, he could be moved back to center back with the result...)
DELAGARZA: "You know, that's Bruce's call man. I would love to be back with Omar, but Bruce makes the shots and who he thinks can help the team the best and right now that's with me on the outside."
