CARSON, Calif. – On Monday, the LA Galaxy unveiled a brand new players’ lounge presented by the club’s presenting partner Herbalife.
The glistening state-of-the-art “Herbalife Players’ Lounge” is complete with a full kitchen—that includes all new appliances, a shake station and a complete assortment of Herbalife products--, three new television sets, and a smart board similar to the type used by ESPN and CNN analysts along with many other amenities.
The lounge may be the standard bearers for the rest of MLS, but plans for the renovation began with a simple request—the installation of a sink into the former players’ lounge. However, LA’s presenting sponsor soon transformed the lounge into something far greater.
“One of the greatest things is that we’re creating an atmosphere here that is equal to some of the great clubs around the world,” AEG President Tim Leiweke said at the unveiling. “Every day, Herbalife was thinking with us about the environment here from a player’s state of the mind, the player’s training and their health and their fitness. They understand that as big as this brand is in the world, everything begins and ends in this locker room and the new Herbalife lounge.”
The unveiling drew considerable attention as Galaxy Vice President Chris Klein and Chief Operating Officer Chris McGowan were joined by Herbalife Chairman and CEO of Herbalife Michael Johnson as well as other key Herbalife executives.
But the Galaxy and Herbalife executives weren’t the only people to take notice as the Galaxy players were impressed with the remodel.
“It’s definitely night and day from the old lounge, Herbalife came in and did an amazing job, and the whole team is excited,” defender Sean Franklin told LAGalaxy.com. “Now it’s a little more comfortable in here and it feels like we’re home and like I’m at my kitchen. It’s nice that they came to support the team and that they are behind us, 100 percent.”
Perhaps the most impressive addition was the touch-activated smart board that will allow the Galaxy coaching staff and players to analyze specific plans and prep game plans. During the unveiling, both head coach Bruce Arena and Associate Head Coach Dave Sarachan immediately began to familiarize themselves with one of the lounge’s most important new additions.
But amid all the shiny new gadgets added to LA’s players’ lounge, Arena admitted that commitment that Herbalife has shown to the Galaxy was by far the most impressive aspect.
“Our goal is to be the best team in MLS year in and year out, and we know that we have the best sponsor in the league, year in and year out,” said Arena. “Those are lofty goals and we hope to obtain them and make [Herbalife] proud of our team.”
