CARSON, Calif. The LA Galaxy U-16 and U-18 squads will face their Chivas USA counterparts at The Home Depot Center this Sunday, October 14 in the first leg of the SuperClasiquito—  the Academy-level version of the SuperClasico rivalry.

The games, which will be played on University Field #2 at The Home Depot Center, are open to the public and parking is free. Those interested in attending are encouraged to enter the stadium grounds through Gate D off of Victoria St. The day will begin with the U-18’s at 10 a.m. while the U-16’s will play at 12:30 p.m.

The Galaxy and Chivas USA squads will enter Sunday’s U-18 game in a three-way tie for first place of the SoCal Division in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with seven points. The Galaxy (2-0-1), who started the season with a 3-3 tie against Seattle in the season opener, enter the game as winners of their last two matches, including a dramatic last-minute win over Arsenal FC on Sept. 22. Forward Jack McBean, one of six different players to have scored for LA this season, has a team-high three goals through the first three games of the year, including the game-winner against Arsenal in the 90th minute of that game. Chivas USA (2-0-1) won their first two games of the season by a combined score of 9-2 before recording a 0-0 tie with Real Salt Lake Arizona (2-0-1), the third team in the three-way tie for first. Midfielder Daniel Moreno is their goal scoring leader with three goals, followed by forward Julio Chavez who is second with two.

Similar to their U-18 counterparts, the Galaxy and Chivas U-16’s enter the game with identical records, though each have just two points from their first three games with 0-1-2 records. LA lost their last game, 2-1 to Arsenal FC on Sept. 22, but started the season with draws against Seattle and Portland. A young-squad, anchored by returning goalkeeper Daniel Slepkhin, the Galaxy have gotten goals from four different players so far this season – Christian Chavez, Steve Martinez, Jonathan Ramirez and Adrian Vera – all of whom are tied for the team lead in scoring with one goal each. Chivas USA also began the season with a pair of draws against Seattle and Portland before losing their last game, a 7-2 defeat to Real Salt Lake-Arizona on Sept. 29. Forward Caleb Calvert leads the club with three goals on the season.

Along with the U-16’s and U-18’s, three of the Galaxy’s younger Academy teams are in league action this weekend. The U-12’s host FC Golden State at 9 a.m. on Saturday at El Segundo High School, where the U-13’s will also host Beach FC North later in the day at 2:40 p.m. The U-14’s will be in action on Sunday when they host Santa Barbara SC at Mira Costa High School at 11:15 a.m.

Last weekend, the U-16’s and U-18’s were off but all four of the younger teams were in action. The U-12’s got a 2-2 draw with Arsenal FC thanks to goals from Ryan Lane and Jacob Muchnick while the U-13’s secured a pair of wins in the Southern California Developmental Soccer League’s Fall Showcase, beating San Diego Surf B 3-0 behind goals from Jose Ortiz, Jose Sosa and Callus Stretch and beating San Diego Soccer Club 4-1. Ortiz had a pair of goals in that win while Angelo Deloso-Flocco and Christian Marion each scored once. The U-14’s continued their hot start with a 4-0 win over Arsenal White with Salvador “Chava” Segura scoring twice to raise his season total to 11 and Colin Apel and Chase Paulson each adding a goal. The U-15’s were the only team not to get a result, falling 1-0 to Real SoCal Blue.
