Galaxy earn fourth seed with victory over Metapan, to face Herediano in Quarters

With a 3-2 victory over Isidro Metapán on Thursday and Chivas de Guadalajara’s 2-1 victory over Xelajú , the LA Galaxy clinched the fourth seed in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The LA Galaxy will face Costa Rican club Herediano in the Quarterfinals. The winner would take on either top-seeded Monterrey or eight seeded Xelaju in the semifinals.

A couple of notes from the result:

Jack McBean tallied a pair of goals and has now tallied three CCL goals in his career, putting him second on LA’s all-time list just one behind Juninho, who has four.

The Galaxy were incensed with a call in the 45th as referee Hugo Cruz took away a goal by Michael Stephens after the  shot tapped in by Stephens was ruled to have been in possession of goalkeeper Mondragon.

Stephens had the last laugh, tallying a goal in the 79th minute to give LA the victory.

Bryan Gaul had a pair of assists on the night.

*The match will be the second time in three years that the Galaxy have faced a Costa Rican team as LA took on Alajuelense in the group stage during last year’s tournament.
