Former LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham has reportedly closed the door on a move to Australia in albeit a strange place.
Reports coming out of Australia state that Perth Glory owner Tony Sage spoke to Beckham during a performance of the Spice Girls’ new stage music and Sage asked him about a potential move to the A-League.
"I got the chance to chat to David and, of course, I asked him about coming to Australia," Sage told footballaustralia.com.au. "He looked me in the eye and basically said, 'That would be nice, but it's too far away from my businesses."
Beckham, 37, ended his six-year stint with the LA Galaxy on Dec. 1 as he helped lead the club to a second straight MLS Cup title by defeating the Houston Dynamo, 3-1 at The Home Depot Center. Since announcing his intention to depart the United States, Beckham has been linked to clubs across the globe including in England, France, the Middle East and China as well as a potential MLS ownership bid.
"It would have been great to have him at Perth Glory, but it looks like that won't be happening," Sage added. "I just don't think he'll be coming to Australia, full stop.”
Will this end rumors linking Beckham to Australia? Probably not. Beckham has repeatedly stated that he expects to announce his next move by years-end.
