Bruce Arena says Hammarby declined to keep three LA Galaxy players sent to train

CARSON, Calif. –After a 10-day sojourn with Swedish Superettan club Hammarby, Bryan Gaul, Charlie Rugg and Kenney Walker are back with the Galaxy.

All three players returned last week to Southern California and participated in Monday’s 4-1 MLS Reserve League victory over Chivas USA.

Although the Galaxy had noted that there was a possibility that the training stint could turn into a loan deal, Arena noted on Tuesday that the players were not of use to Hammarby.

“They decided that they didn’t need them. It’s that simple. That was up to that club to decide whether they could utilize the players,” said Arena.  “We thought that we sent them three players that they needed to look at and consider, but at the end of the day, they need to make that decision. [Former LA Galaxy defender and current Hammarby head coach Gregg Berhalter] felt that at this time, he couldn’t utilize those players.”
