Landon Donovan wins the Golden Ball as the U.S. wins 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup

It was a banner Gold Cup tournament for Landon Donovan and one that ended in a championship.


Donovan provided the assist on Brek Shea’s goal in the 68th minute minute to seal the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup title and the 11th straight victory for the U.S with a 1-0 victory over Panama.   For his five goals and seven assists, Donovan was awarded the tournament’s Golden Ball while also tying for the Golden Boot with Panama's Gabriel Torres and U.S. forward Chris Wondolowski. 


Omar Gonzalez also made a brief appearance in the match, coming on in the 89th as the U.S. closed out the game. 


Donovan and Gonzalez will now head to Kansas City for the MLS All-Star Game before rejoining the Galaxy at sometime next week.
