Landon Donovan awarded MLS Player of the Week honors

Landon Donovan’s hat trick in the LA Galaxy’s 3-3 against FC Dallas earned him MLS Player of the Week honors, MLS announced.

The North American Soccer Reporters voted Donovan as Player of the Week, making him the second LA Galaxy player to win the honors this season. The first was Mike Magee when he tallied a hat trick against his current club, the Chicago Fire in the first week of the season.

Let’s look at just how impressive Donovan’s night was, shall we?

Donovan had just three shots and scored three goals. He’s the first player to score in all of his shots since Dewayne De Rosario on Sept. 2011. Interestingly enough, three of Donovan’s came during game’s where he scored on all three of his shots.

Donovan has now scored 20 goals against FC Dallas. His highest against any club.

Donovan now has 152 career goals in MLS (counting postseason and regular season).

At 130 regular season goals, he’s just FIVE goals away from setting a new MLS regular season record, which is currently held by Jeff Cunningham.

*Donovan now has four career hat tricks in MLS – three of them as a member of the Galaxy—which puts him just one hat trick away from tying the league’s all-time mark of five, which is shared by Stern John and Diego Serna.
