Todd Dunivant: LA Galaxy must play "smart soccer" in wet and rainy Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – The LA Galaxy received their first taste of the wet Pacific Northwest weather that they’ll experience during their match against the Portland Timbers on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, LA went through an hour-long session at JELD-WEN Field as rain showers poured down upon them. The forecast for Sunday’s match promises for temperatures in the high 50s with heavy wind and rain.

“This is not something that we’re used to in [Southern California],” Todd Dunivant told LA Galaxy Insider. “But training out here today, we saw how fast the field plays so we can try to use that to our advantage and be aware of it.”

Just how can the conditions benefit the Galaxy?

“The biggest thing will just be being smart,” said Dunivant. “Balls are going to be down your throat quickly and there can be mistakes, so you've got to be on your guard and play smart soccer.”
