LA Galaxy U-16’s to take on LA Galaxy U-18’s ahead of the White vs. Blue match

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, January 21, 2014) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-16’s are set to take on the LA Galaxy Academy Under-18’s at StubHub Center on Saturday, February 22 at 4:00 p.m. before the White (LA Galaxy) vs. Blue (LA Galaxy II) preseason match Presented by Universal Studios Hollywood scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.  Both matches are free, include free parking and are open to the general public.


The Galaxy U-16’s and U-18’s return to U.S. Soccer Development Academy action next month, when they go on the road to take on De Anza Force U-16 and U-18 at De Anza College on Saturday, March 1, at 1:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively.   


Currently, the U-18’s are 11-3-2 this USSDA season with a perfect record of four wins in four matches in 2014. The Galaxy Academy U-16’s are now 11-0-5 overall and sit in first place in the Southwest Division standings with 38 points.


LA GALAXY U-12’S TO PARTICIPATE IN CAL SOUTH NATIONAL CUP THIS WEEKEND: The LA Galaxy U-12 Academy North and South teams will participate in the 2014 Cal South National Cup to be held at Lancaster National Soccer Complex in Lancaster, Calif. The Galaxy U-12 North team was placed in Group G alongside Albion SC, West Coast FC, Pateadores, and Chula Vista Premier FC Academy. The Galaxy North side will play its first match against Chula Vista Premier FC Academy on Saturday, February 22 at 1:45 p.m., followed by a game on Sunday, February 23 against Pateadores at 1:45 p.m. The LA Galaxy Academy U-12 South will share Group H with Futbol United Club, Hotspurs USA, Chelsea SC, and the Exiles. The South side will begin play against the Exiles on Saturday, February 22 at 1:45 p.m. On Sunday, the Galaxy U-12’s South will face Chelsea SC at 1:45 p.m. Both teams will play their third and fourth games of the first round on March 1. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16, which is set to be played on the weekend of March 8. The winning teams in each category will go on to represent Cal South at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M. from June 16-22. The winners from the regionals will then move on to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship to be held in Maryland from July 21-27.


LA GALAXY SIGN FORWARDS JAMIESON IV AND MENDIOLA TO HOMEGROWN PLAYER CONTRACTS: The LA Galaxy announced this week that the club has signed 17-year-old forward Bradford Jamieson IV and 19- year-old forward Raul Mendiola as Homegrown Players. Jamieson IV and Mendiola are the sixth and seventh Homegrown Player to be signed from the LA Galaxy Academy joining Gyasi Zardes (December 2012), Oscar Sorto (December 2012), Jose Villarreal (December 2011), Jack McBean (January 2011), and Tristan Bowen (November 2008). Jamieson IV, a native of Los Angeles, Calif. and a senior at Santa Monica High school, has tallied three goals in 11 appearances for the LA Galaxy Academy U-18 side in the 2013-2014 U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy season. The forward also made three appearances for the LA Galaxy during the 2013 MLS Reserve League season as LA retained their West Division crown for a second straight year. Mendiola, who was named to the Development Academy Starting XI for the third time in 2013, is the seventh player overall signed from the LA Galaxy Academy. He joins Bradford Jamieson IV, Gyasi Zardes, Oscar Sorto, Jose Villarreal, Jack McBean, and Tristan Bowen as successful academy players that have made the leap to the club’s first team.


HANIF WRIGHT CALLED INTO U-15 U.S. NATIONAL TEAM CAMP: Forward Hanif Wright was named to the initial group of players list selected for the upcoming U.S. Soccer Under-15 Boys’ National Team training camp in Carson, Calif. to take place from Saturday, March 22 to Sunday, March 30. Earlier this year, Wright was among the 20 players called up by U-15 head coach Hugo Perez for the camp in Abu Dhabi that ran from Jan. 31-Feb. 9. Wright is the younger brother of Galaxy Academy U-16 forward Haji Wright, who is taking part in U.S. Soccer’s U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla.


SPLIT RESULTS FOR GALAXY U-17’S IN GA CUP REGIONAL QUALIFIERS: The LA Galaxy Academy Under-16’s took part in the Western Region’s second event of the Generation adidas Cup, an annual showcase tournament presented by Major League Soccer and sponsored by adidas, this past weekend in San Jose, Calif. where they lost 2-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes Academy U-16’s on Friday and defeated the Chivas USA Academy U-16’s 2-1 on Sunday. On Friday, the Galaxy U-17’s dropped a tough one against the Earthquakes after two late penalty kicks from the hosts doomed the Galaxy to a 2-1 loss. Things looked better for LA on Sunday as the 16’s beat their local rival Chivas USA 2-1 in a high energy, heated affair. Midfielder Johnathan Ramirez, with his second goal of the weekend, and forward Dylan Smith tallied goals for the Galaxy against the Goats. The Galaxy finished the second event of the GA Cup in the top three in the standings and will advance to the international event, held in April, where teams from around the world are invited to play against the top American clubs. LA GALAXY ACADEMY U-18’S SUIT UP FOR LA GALAXY II IN FRESNO: All four Galaxy Academy players who traveled to Fresno with the LA Galaxy II suited up at some point in the inaugural match against the Fresno Fuego on Thursday, February 13 at Chukchansi Park. Starlet forward Jaime Villarreal, midfielder and Fresno native Elijah Martin, forward Aaron Lombardi and Galaxy U-18 leading goal scorer Adonis Amaya were called up by the II’s head coach Curt Onalfo to play in the 2-1 victory over the Fuego. Galaxy II, along with the four U-18 Academy players, will return to action this Saturday when they take on the LA first team in the White vs. Blue match on February 22 at StubHub Center.


LA GALAXY U-13 TRYOUTS FOR PLAYERS BORN IN 2002: The LA Galaxy will hold tryouts for their Galaxy Academy Under-13 team on March 16 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Players interested in trying out for the LA Galaxy Academy’s 2002 team for 2014/15 season can register now by submitting an application online at www.lagalaxy.com/AcademyTryouts. Players born in 2002 will have the opportunity to be coached and evaluated by the Galaxy Academy staff during camps. There will be a limited number of tryout spaces for the LA Galaxy Academy 2014/15 2002 team. This will be a fully funded official LA Galaxy Academy team competing in the SCDSL U13 Flight 1.Registration for these tryouts are free.
