LA Galaxy II defeat Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at home, 2-1

CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, May 3, 2015) – LA Galaxy II extended their winning streak to three games after Ariel Lassiter scored a late game-winner to give Los Dos a 2-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday at StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium.

The two sides traded goals in the first half as Travis Bowen found the back of the net for Galaxy II while Billy Schuler scored for the visitors from Vancouver. Los Dos ultimately found their winner in the 87th minute as Lassiter scored his third goal of the season.

After controlling the tempo for much of the opening half, Galaxy II finally broke through in the 32nd minute when Jack McBean found Bowen at the back post with a pinpoint cross. The 25-year-old forward then buried the ball from close-range for his second goal of the 2015 USL campaign.

The Galaxy’s lead did not last long, however, as Vancouver equalized just two minutes later when Caleb Clarke made a run down the left flank before launching a square pass through the LA defense to a wide open Billy Schuler who tapped the ball home.

Goalkeeper Brian Rowe made his first start for Galaxy II in 2015 breaking French ‘keeper Clement Diop’s streak of six consecutive starts for the Galaxy USL affiliate. Rowe was rarely tested but was forced to make one impressive diving stop during his 90-minute shift after being dispossessed by a Vancouver attacker in the 64th minute of play.

Vancouver appeared to be the more dangerous side as time wound down, but the Galaxy bagged the winner after Lassiter caught the Whitecaps on the counterattack. After scooping up a loose ball at midfield, Lassiter found Mendiola streaking up the right side, the 20-year-old then played a pass across the goalmouth back to Lassiter for the easy finish. Mendiola’s assist is his league-leading sixth of the season.

Los Dos will now travel to Oklahoma where they will take on OKC Energy FC on Saturday, May 9 at 5:00 p.m. PT. Galaxy II returns home on Wednesday, May 13 to host Tulsa Roughnecks FC at 7:30 p.m. PT at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium.

Meanwhile Whitecaps FC 2 resumes their inaugural campaign when they host OKC Energy FC on Sunday, May 17 at Thunderbird Stadium.
