LA Galaxy II earn 2-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2

LA Galaxy II (7-5-1, 22 points) earned a 2-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 Sunday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium UCB in Vancouver behind goals from Travis Bowen and Ariel Lassiter. Galaxy II are now tied for third place in the USL Regular Season Western Conference standings.

After a back and forth first half, Los Dos struck first just minutes before halftime on a clinical counter attack finished off by Bowen just in front of net. After the ball was intercepted near midfield, Kainoa Bailey received a pass on the right side before crossing the ball into the 18 to a wide-open Bowen, who headed the ball into an empty net to give Galaxy II the lead.

Shortly into the second half, Ariel Lassiter doubled the score with his fifth goal of the 2015 USL season. Los Dos created space inside the 18 before firing a shot that was handled by a Whitecaps FC 2 player and called for a penalty. The Galaxy II forward stepped up to the spot and buried a penalty to add his fifth of the year, the most of any Los Dos  player.

Galaxy II received a huge boost from goalkeeper Clement Diop, who saved two point blank shots from the hosts to preserve a shutout, his third of the season. Twice Vancouver found themselves behind the Galaxy II defense with only Diop to beat, but two athletic saves from the keeper stifled each attempt as Los Dos held on for a 2-0 win.

The match ended a three-game road swing for Galaxy II that saw the team earn six points from the three away matches. Los Dos have now won seven of their last nine USL Regular Season matches to move into a third-place tie in the Western Conference standings.

LA Galaxy II will now return to StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium for a match Friday, June 19 at StubHub Center’s Track & Field Stadium against Southern California rivals Orange County Blues FC beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT.
