The United States and Mexico will face off on Oct. 9 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for a berth in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, CONCACAF announced on Sunday.

The game pits the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup winners, the United States against a Mexico side that won the 2015 tournament on Sunday. Both teams will be able to call upon their full squads for the playoff as it will take place during the FIFA international window.

The victor of the one-game playoff will qualify for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup which is scheduled to run from June 17 to July 2 in venues across Russia. CONCACAF announced the change to their Confederations Cup qualification in 2013 to assure that each Gold Cup held during a World Cup cycle will have equal importance for the competing nations.

The two nations last played at the Rose Bowl in 2011 when Mexico erased an early two goal deficit to defeat the United States 4-2 in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup final. El Tri has enjoyed the better of the play in the Arroyo Seco with a 2-1-1 record all-time against the USMNT at the Rose Bowl.
According to CONCACAF, tickets for the match will officially go on sale to the general public in September.
