Giovani dos Santos says it was an "honor" to meet LA Galaxy legend David Beckham | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos had plenty to smile about after his Major League Soccer debut for the LA Galaxy.

Dos Santos scored a goal and notched an assist in the club’s 3-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC, but one of the best moments came prior to the game when the 26-year-old Mexican international met former LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham. After the match, Dos Santos spoke about the chance to meet the English soccer legend.

“It’s an honor and it gives me a lot of pride to have a player of his stature show his support. It makes me very happy and that makes me think that the decision I took is even a better one,” Dos Santos said. ‘Players like David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane that praise my decision to play here makes me feel very happy and honored.”

Beckham himself had plenty of praise for the Dos Santos’ signing stating that it was a “massive” move for his former club even noting that he is “the perfect No. 10 to take over from Landon.”

“Bringing Gio in is a massive thing. He’s 26-years-old, he’s played at some of the biggest clubs in Europe, he’s a proven goal scorer,” Beckham told LA Galaxy TV. “For him to come into this league, what he does for Mexico is huge. People love him; he’s a great character, a great goal scorer, and a great person as well.”

“He’s the perfect No. 10 to take over from Landon,” he later added. “Obviously with Landon leaving, the Galaxy needed a No. 10 like him to come in, a proven goal scorer and a great player.”
