Three Points: LA Galaxy state their championship credentials with big win over New York City FC

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano offers his Three Points to the Galaxy’s 5-1 victory over New York City FC.

ROBBIE KEANE MAKES HIS CASE FOR ANOTHER MLS MVP WITH BRACE

There’s no one in Major League Soccer playing better right now than LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane.

Keane outshone all of the other stars on the pitch on Sunday as the Galaxy forward scored two goals and added two assists as Los Angeles demolished New York City FC 5-1.  Whether it was up top or in a playmaking role, Keane was simply brilliant on the afternoon as he lifted the Galaxy over the expansion side.

Keane has scored 15 goals this season but 13 of those tallies have come in the Galaxy’s last nine games. With an impressive performance on national television in the books, expect Keane to once again be considered a front-runner for the MLS MVP award.

GALAXY STATE THEIR INTENT

Watch out Major League Soccer, here come the LA Galaxy.

In front of a capacity crowd at StubHub Center and a nationally televised audience, the Galaxy flattened a talented NYCFC. After an initial spell of possession from the visitors, the Galaxy’s class shined through as Giovani dos Santos, Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes all tallied multi-point games en route to the victory.

In total, the Galaxy have now scored 37 goals in their last eight home games. By steamrolling New York City, the Galaxy put the league on notice that the defending MLS Cup champions are once again back to their best. After Sunday’s win, could a run up the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings be too far behind?

LA GALAXY SET MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER GOALS RECORD

The LA Galaxy became the first club in league history to score 1,000 regular season goals with five tallies in the win over New York City FC.

It should come as little surprise that the Galaxy were the first team to reach 1,000 considering that the Galaxy have long boasted one of the league’s best offenses.

With the Galaxy scoring goals at an impressive clip, who knows how long it’ll take the Galaxy to tally 2,000?
