LA Galaxy President Chris Klein and front office staff participated in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon benefiting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) to support Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month through 20 for Twenty Program on Sunday, September 20th in Zuma Beach, CA.

Team LA Galaxy raised over $7,250 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with 20 LA Galaxy and StubHub Center affiliated triathletes completing a half-mile ocean swim, 18-mile bike ride, and 4-mile run on Sunday morning. Supporting CHLA is a natural fit for the LA Galaxy Foundation, who annually donates to the hospital’s Sports Medicine Program.

“The Malibu Tri is something our team looks forward to every year," said Galaxy Director of Business Operations Thomas Braun. "From the experienced triathlete to the first timer, our team comes together to train, to compete and to support our partner, CHLA."

The 29th annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox raised over $1.3 million and is one of the nation’s most iconic triathlons, gathering thousands of participants, including the world’s finest athletes, philanthropists, celebrities, and supporters. All fundraising efforts specifically benefitted CHLA’s Pediatric Cancer Research Program, dedicated to curing and preventing childhood cancers.

“The Nautica Malibu Triathlon is an event that I look forward to participating in every year for all the great things done with the money raised for the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, "Director of Amateur Soccer and Fan Development Gordon Kljestan said. "Knowing that the money raised goes to helping so many others, makes this event my favorite thing to take part of all year.”

In a continued effort to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment, MLS WORKS and the LA Galaxy will focus their efforts on Childhood Cancer Awareness during the month of September with the Soccer Kicks Cancer campaign. MLS matches will be played with commemorative gold corner flags and nets, while all MLS players wear a commemorative Soccer Kicks Cancer patch during select matches throughout the month.
