Former U.S. teammates Landon Donovan and Tim Howard prepare to face off again in Western Conference Semifinals | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Two of U.S. Soccer’s most cherished icons will face off on Sunday when the LA Galaxy take on the Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference Semifinal second leg.  


Landon Donovan and Tim Howard forged their legacies as teammates with the U.S. National Team and English side Everton, but they’ll lineup as adversaries for just the fourth time in their storied careers on Sunday.


The two players appeared in 68 games together with the U.S. National Team, playing in two FIFA World Cups together in 2006 and 2010. Donovan also played alongside Howard a total of 20 times during his two stints with Everton during the 2010-11 and 2012-13 campaigns.


When the two titans of American soccer have faced off, it’s been the Galaxy star has had the edge on his former goalkeeper with two goals in three matches against Howard. Both goals came during Donovan’s tenure with the San Jose Earthquakes when he bagged goals against Howard’s New York/New Jersey MetroStars in 2001 and 2003.
