CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy are looking forward to welcoming LAFC into Major League Soccer in 2018.

The newest member of the Los Angeles sports market will join the scene next year as the league’s 23rd club. On Tuesday following the press conference unveiling new head coach Curt Onalfo, club general manager Pete Vagenas stated that the club is ready for their arrival.

“I’ve been waiting for that question, and I will say this: You don’t realize how big someone or something is until you try and stand up right next to it. I welcome, I encourage LAFC, but at the end of the day it is really intoxicating about the Galaxy: a lot of people can talk the talk. We have the resources and the capability to be exactly who we say we are. And that will never stop.”

AEG President and CEO Dan Beckerman was quick to agree that the Galaxy are looking forward to welcoming the new club into the market next year.

“I like the idea of having a rival in the market. And having a real rivalry that will raise the level of interest for everyone. For their fans and for our fans. I want those games to be special, I want those games to be competitive, I want them to be heated,” Beckerman told LA Galaxy Insider.  “So I look forward to having competition. I have the utmost confidence in our team, our players, our coaches, our staff that we’re the LA Galaxy, and we’re going to continue that.”
