Gyasi Zardes back to full fitness as he joins the U.S. National Team | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Gyasi Zardes is fit and ready to hit the ground running with the U.S. National Team.

Zardes saw his 2016 season cut short after suffering a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot in August that cost him the remainder of the campaign. The injury did not stop the 25-year-old from being named to Bruce Arena’s 32-man USMNT roster for the annual January camp.

Although there might be some concern about Zardes’ status, both the striker and his national team boss say that he’s ready to get back to work.

“I was doing workouts on my own and running on a treadmill and using the toca machine so I got in a lot of touches,” said Zardes. “Game fitness is different than running on your own, so I think just being here with this group of guys is going to help me prepare.”

Arena said, “He probably could have been under consideration for the next round of the playoffs if we had advanced. He’s been ready to go since late October.”
