LA Galaxy II Preview: Goalkeepers

keepers of the goals los dos edition

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop made over 20 appearances with
Los Dos
in each of the past two USL seasons. With Diop now competing for a starting spot on the first team, LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz will have a trio of goalkeepers to choose from in his first season as manager.
Eric Lopez
Lopez signed his first professional contract with LA Galaxy II on Nov. 3, 2014 at the age of 15, a deal that made him the youngest player ever to sign a USL contract.
Last year, on Aug. 20, Lopez made his professional debut with
Los Dos,
his only professional appearance. In 2017, Lopez will get the professional experience he’s looking for under new head coach Mike Muñoz, a coach Lopez has spent considerable time under in the Galaxy Academy.
Given time to mature within the Galaxy system, 2017 will be a year for
Los Dos
fans to see what one of LA Galaxy II’s longest tenured players is made of.
Bennett Sneddon
Sneddon appeared in five matches for
Los Dos
in 2016; the most appearances he’s recorded in a season since joining the team in 2015.
Sneddon recorded his first professional shutout on June 24 in a 2-0 home win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Sneddon has also spent time in the LA Galaxy Academy working under Muñoz.
Jon Kempin
Kempin, a late offseason signing by LA Galaxy, joins the organization after six seasons with Sporting Kansas City. Kempin will be one of many first-team players getting minutes with LA Galaxy II in 2017 and will be expected to hit the ground running with his amount of experience.
In 2016 with Swope Park Rangers, Kempin recorded a 1.08 GAA in 12 games while saving .705% of opponents’ shots on target. The numbers are very similar to Diop’s 2016 stats: 1.18 GAA in 22 matches with a .705% save percentage.
