LA Galaxy reflect on successful Protect the Pitch Earth Day initiatives

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy celebrated Earth Day last week with a host of green initiatives designed to promote sustainability throughout Southern California.

The series of events were capped off by Protect the Pitch Day at StubHub Center for the Galaxy’s match with Seattle Sounders FC. For their clash with Seattle, both teams donned special jerseys made of technical yards containing Parley Ocean Plastic.

The Galaxy kicked off the week by inviting students from Catskill Avenue Elementary to visit StubHub Center and receive a tour of the in-stadium green house, chicken coop and bee hives. There they received a firsthand look at the venue’s sustainability efforts.

Galaxy players Brian Rowe, Baggio Husidic and Jack McBean got into the act as well lending a helpful hand with the students.

Two days later, Galaxy Academy players visited Twenty-Fourth Street Elementary School to help restore the school campus by planting a garden and providing other school maintenance.

Finally, the work week wrapped up with the Galaxy staff making the trek to Griffith Park to work with TreePeople to help beautify a local park.
