Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 0-0 draw with D.C. United | Presented by SNHU

WASHINGTON – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s scoreless draw with D.C. United presented by SNHU.

LA GALAXY TAKE 10 POINTS OUT OF 12 FROM ROAD TRIP

When it’s all said, and done, the LA Galaxy will have logged more than 12,000 miles during their four-game road swing and take home a whopping 10 points back to StubHub Center in the process.

Los Angeles extended their unbeaten run to six games with a scoreless draw against D.C. United on Saturday in their final ever trip to RFK Stadium to take 10 points out of a possible 12 from their road swing. Although Curt Onalfo’s squad dealt with heavy legs throughout the contest, they were able to grind out a result, winning 54 duels and making 23 clearances to keep United off the board.

After a slow start to the season, this May/June road trip could be a turning point for Curt Onalfo’s team as they build toward the future.

JON KEMPIN KEEPS A SHUTOUT IN LA GALAXY DEBUT

Jon Kempin put forth a very solid showing in his LA Galaxy debut in the team’s scoreless draw with D.C. United.

Despite a nervy start to the match, Kempin racked up six saves to help the Galaxy extend their unbeaten run to six games. His most impressive save came in the 50th minute when Kempin blocked a D.C. free kick and then made a quick reaction save to save the rebound moments later.

Kempin is likely to get the nod again when the Galaxy open their U.S. Open Cup campaign on June 14 against Orange County SC, but he’ll likely have to beat out Clement Diop for the team’s No. 1 job when Los Angeles host Houston three days later.

THE LA GALAXY TO BE SHORTHANDED AGAIN FOR HOUSTON MATCH

The LA Galaxy will return to StubHub Center with a makeshift lineup for their clash with the Houston Dynamo on June 17.

Los Angeles lost Jelle Van Damme to yellow card accumulation in the first half of the Galaxy’s draw against D.C. United to add to a growing list of absences. Van Damme’s suspension places him alongside Brian Rowe (groin), Baggio Husidic (broken), Giovani dos Santos (international duty) amongst others in the growing list of players to miss the Houston matchup.

The team could welcome back Jermaine Jones (MCL Sprain) and Daniel Steres (hamstring) back as they will each have two weeks to recover. As Onalfo looks to continue the Galaxy’s impressive recent form, he'll again need to rely on his team’s depth.
