Giovani dos Santos and Mexico prepare for World Cup qualifier against Honduras | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos and Mexico will take on Honduras in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Mexico City on Thursday.

El Tri head into the clash unbeaten in the Hexagonal play so far but will have revenge on their mind when they host the Hondurans. Los Catrachos performed well at the feared Mexico City venue with a win and a draw in their last two trips to Estadio Azteca including a victory in 2013.

"I think we need to focus on taking the next step [toward the World Cup]. Of course, we want to beat Honduras and show that we're good at home," Mexican player Oswaldo Alanis told Mexican media ahead of the game.

Mexico sits in pole position in the Hexagonal with three wins and one assist across four matches and will host two games during the round of qualifying. Honduras face an uphill climb as sit in fifth place with a 1-1-2 record in the final stage of qualification for Russia.

Following Thursday’s clash, Mexico will turn their attention to their match against the United States at Azteca on Sunday, while Honduras takes on travels to take on Panama.

"It's a generation that is forged to make history," dos Santos said. "Two [World Cup qualifying] games are coming up in which we can seal [qualification]."
