ROMAIN ALESSANDRINI RESCUES GALAXY AGAIN

Curt Onalfo’s squad’s depth was tested on Saturday as the LA Galaxy earned a point despite not being able to fill out their 18-man roster due to injuries and suspensions.

Romain Alessandrini’s came to the rescue as his stoppage-time strike earned Los Angeles a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo. As has been the case throughout the middle half of the season, the Galaxy kept fighting until the final whistle, extending the team’s unbeaten streak to seven matches.

LA moved to 1-3-3 on the season at StubHub Center, but their unbeaten run gives cause for optimism as the Galaxy look ahead to a busy summer.

EMA BOATENG EXCELLENT

Ema Boateng finally found the back of the net against a team not named Real Salt Lake.

Boateng was a threat throughout the night on Saturday, repeatedly causing Houston defender A.J. DeLaGarza headaches. The winger grabbed his second goal of the season in the 35th when he streaked past the Dyanmo defense and slotted the ball home.

With Giovani dos Santos away on international duty and Gyasi Zardes yet to hit his stride this season, Boateng’s performance is an encouraging sign for Galaxy boss Curt Onalfo as he looks for offensive help this month.

HUGO ARELLANO SOLID IN MLS DEBUT

Young defender Hugo Arellano impressed in his first taste of MLS action on Saturday night.

The 19-year-old from Norwalk did not seem out of place slotted next to Dave Romney in central defense, helping stifle Houston’s leading scorer Erick Torres. The teenager rose to the occasion on the evening, making four clearances and completing nearly 95 percent of his passes.

Jelle Van Damme will presumably slide back to his normal starting role against the Colorado Rapids next week, but Arellano’s performance is heartening for head coach Curt Onalfo as the Galaxy head into a busy summer slate.
