CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos and Mexico will look to qualify for the Confederations Cup final when they host World Champion Germany in Thursday’s semifinal clash in Sochi.

Mexico reached the Confederations Cup semifinals for the first time since 2005 tournament after finishing second in Group A with a 2-1-0 record, trailing Portugal on goal difference.  World Cup champions advanced to the semifinals with an identical undefeated 2-1-0 record to top Group B.

"We are taking on a nation that could be the example to follow for those of us that believe in processes," said head coach Juan Carlos Osorio. "We all profoundly admire the world champion."

The experienced Mexican side will be without captain Andres Guardado who will miss the semifinal due to yellow card accumulation as well as defenders Carlos Salcedo and Diego Reyes due to injuries.

Thursday’s victor will play the winner of Wednesday’s match between Chile and Portugal in the final on Sunday with the two losers playing in the third-place game.
