Mexico dropped their final CONCACAF World Cup qualifying match, falling 3-2 to Honduras in San Pedro Sula.

Honduras found goals from Alberth Elis, a Guillermo Ochoa own goal, and Romell Quito to earn a spot in the intercontinental playoff against Australia at the expense of the United States. LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos went 45 minutes in the defeat, while Giovani dos Santos was an unused substitute.

Oribe Peralta and Carlos Vela found the back of the net for Mexico who was thwarted in their attempt to set a new CONCACAF World Cup qualifying record and become the first team since 1998 to finish the round undefeated.

Prior to the match, both teams combined in solidarity for those lost in the earthquake that struck Central Mexico last month.
