LA Galaxy Foundation team up with LA Regional Food Bank to feed Los Angeles

In October, the LA Galaxy Foundation joined the fight against hunger and food insecurity in Los Angeles through weeklong support of Los Angeles Regional Food Bank that invited LA Galaxy staff members and fans to generously donate time and meals to this in need in the local community.

The Mission of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is to mobilize resources to fight hunger by collecting food from hundreds of resources, which – with the help of 30,000 volunteers annually – are distributed through a network of more than 625 partner agencies. Since 1973, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has distributed more than 1 billion pounds of food. It provides food to 300,000 people every month and in 2016 we distributed 55 million meals–that’s more than 62 million pounds of food. Twenty percent of that food is fresh produce.

Monday, Oct. 9th kicked off efforts with a LA Regional Food Bank meal distribution at Carson Senior Center, which allowed LA Galaxy Star Squad and staff members to prepare and distribute 900 meals to local senior citizens facing food insecurity based on household income. LA Galaxy volunteer work continued on Friday, as LA Galaxy staff members and fans visited LA Regional Food Bank warehouse to package 3,000 meals to be distributed to local seniors and youth in the coming week.

Weeklong support amplified with a LA Galaxy Staff canned food drive benefiting LA Regional Food Bank that culminated with a final collection opportunity offered to LA Galaxy fans attending the Club’s final regular season match on Sunday, October 15th at StubHub Center against Minnesota United that ended in a 3-0 victory. The LA Galaxy canned food drive collected 726 pounds of food, which provide 605 meals to hungry children and their families, seniors and individuals in Los Angeles County.

LA Galaxy Foundation (LAGF) is dedicated to assisting the community in which the team lives, works, and plays. LA Galaxy players, coaches, alumni and staff spend countless hours giving back to the community at local schools, hospitals, fields, and events. LAGF strives to aid organizations that meet its mission of supporting and creating education, health, and soccer-related activities and programs for youth in the greater Los Angeles area.
