CARSON, Calif.-- Bradford Jamieson IV made his first appearance of the 2018 season and did not miss a beat.
The LA Galaxy winger was in the starting XI and helped the Galaxy in 3-1 win over FC Golden State Force, a PDL side, in the fourth round of the US Open Cup.
Jamieson picked up right where he left off and scored in the 15th minute. A beautifully curled shot into the top right corner from just outside the 18 was well beyond FC Golden State Force goalkeeper Jose Miranda.
“It’s always feel good scoring. It’s definitely a confidence boost,” Jamieson said. “It’s good to have things push through in the match. You do a lot on the training pitch… but at the end of the day, this is where it matters.”
In what was a rather quiet first 20 minutes for Jamieson and the Galaxy, that single moment of class showed why he’s one of the Galaxy’s most prominent young talents.
Jamieson who usually plays a wide role played in the hole underneath forward Ethan Zubak. He thrived in that role as the game progressed. Whether it was combining in tight spaces, threading the needle with perfectly weighted through-balls or cheeky scoop passes, Jamieson put his full skill set on display.
“I find a lot of freedom there. I think I have a lot of chances to do a lot of defensive work as well, which kind of gets me going as well,” Jamieson said. “Being able to come into the pockets and at the same time make a lot of runs in behind to find space allows me to offer a lot more.”
Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid said postgame that he was not yet fully fit as Schmid pulled off Jamieson in the 73rd minute in a what was a tight 2-1 game at that point.
“He’s still not 90 minutes fit, that’s the reason I had to take him out, but I was pleased with [Jamieson],” Schmid said. “That’s a step forward for him.”
For Jamieson, the match was just another step forward in his process to get back to full match fitness.
“Yeah, getting close to match fitness and being able to be sharp from minute one to minute 90,” Jamieson said.
