Lineup Notes

  • Soccer in the morning, soccer in the afternoon, soccer in the evening. The LA Galaxy are back in action for their third game in eight days when they host Columbus Crew SC at StubHub Center Saturday evening.
  • Head Coach Sigi Schmid will trot out a different lineup that will welcome back Ola Kamara, Giovani dos Santos and Jonathan dos Santos into the XI as the Dos Santos brothers make their first appearance since World Cup action.
  • In net is David Bingham, who will make his 18th start in goal. Bingham has tallied five shutouts and 63 saves in 17 appearances this season.
  • The versatile and athletic Dave Romney continues in the starting lineup after a string of solid performances, most recently curling a beautiful cross to Zlatan for Wednesday’s opening goal.
  • In the center of the defense is big Mike, Michael Ciani, who will make his 12th start of the season and his 18th overall for LA since joining late last year.
  • Norwegian Jorgen Skjelvik will make his 18th straight start of the season, appearing in every MLS Galaxy contest this year since joining this offseason.
  • The 37 year old Ashley Cole makes his 15th start of the MLS season in his third year as a member of the LA Galaxy. Once again, Cole will captain the side against Columbus.
  • In the center of the field is Perry Kitchen, who has also made every single MLS start this season for the Galaxy after joining this offseason. Kitchen is an important cog in the midfield, doing the dirty work in the center each match.
  • Returning to the lineup is midfielder Jonathan dos Santos, who made his World Cup debut on Monday while representing Mexico against Brazil. Dos Santos will contribute offensively and defensively Saturday.
  • On the right side of the field is midfielder Chris Pontius, who has been a key player for LA in previous weeks. In his last five appearances for LA, he has scored a goal or tallied an assist. He has the best first name in Major League Soccer.
  • Pulling the strings on offense is Giovani dos Santos, who also returns to action for the first time since returning from the World Cup with Mexico. In his MLS career, Dos Santos has 25 goals and 21 assists.
  • After missing the last two contests due to injury, forward Ola Kamara returns to the lineup in a game against his former team. During his time in Columbus, Kamara showed why he is one of the most dangerous goal scorers in MLS, now boasting 40 goals in all during his time in MLS, including six this year for the Galaxy.
  • Up top is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is good at soccer.

Game Notes

  • The Galaxy are 15-17-10 against Crew SC all-time.
  • In their one matchup last year, the Galaxy fell 2-0 to Columbus at MAPFRE Stadium. Ola Kamara scored the game-winning goal in that match.
  • This year at home, the Galaxy have gone 4-4-1 at StubHub center, scoring 16 goals and allowing 16.
  • Columbus is 2-3-3 on the road this season.
  • The Galaxy have lost just one of their last seven games, going 3-1-3 during that span.
  • The Galaxy have scored in 10-straight MLS games, their longest streak since scoring in 25 straight in 2014.
  • SUSPENDED NEXT YELLOW CARD: LA: Perry Kitchen

Quick Hits

The Drifters Lyrics – Under the Boardwalk

Oh when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof

And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire proof

Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah

On a blanket with my soccer is where I'll be

out of the sun

(Under the boardwalk) we'll be havin' some fun

(Under the boardwalk) people walking above

(Under the boardwalk) we'll be falling in love

Under the boardwalk, boardwalk

From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel

Mm-mm, you can almost taste the hot dogs and french fries they sell

Under the boardwalk, down by the sea

On a blanket with my soccer is where I'll be

out of the sun

(Under the boardwalk) we'll be havin' some fun

(Under the boardwalk) people walking above

(Under the boardwalk) we'll be falling in love

Under the boardwalk, boardwalk

Ooh, under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah

On a blanket with my soccer is where I'll be
